Experience and Service Strengthen Gwinnett's Superior Court

To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to recognize the appointments of Veronica H. Cope and Kathrine M. Armstrong to the Superior Court of the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit.
Judge Cope brings nearly two decades of legal experience and several years on the State Court of Gwinnett County to the Superior Court bench. Before her election to the State Court in 2020, she practiced law in complex commercial litigation, insurance defense, felony criminal and juvenile matters. She has also demonstrated a strong commitment to the legal profession through her service as president of the Georgia Association for Women Lawyers and her involvement with the Gwinnett County Bar Association and other community organizations.
Judge Armstrong, a lifelong Gwinnett County resident, has served as chief judge of Gwinnett County Recorder’s Court since 2019. She began her legal career in the Gwinnett County Solicitor-General’s Office before entering private practice, where she focused on family and criminal law. Her path to the bench continues a family tradition of public service, following her late father, Mark E. Layng, who served as a Gwinnett County Magistrate Judge, and her late grandfather, John C. Layng, who served as a Superior Court judge in Northern Illinois.
Both judges bring extensive legal experience, a commitment to public service and deep connections to the Gwinnett County community. Their backgrounds and dedication will serve them well as they take on the important responsibility of administering justice on the Superior Court bench.
We commend Judge Cope and Judge Armstrong on their appointments and wish them continued success as they serve the citizens of Gwinnett County and Georgia's justice system.
