To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Toccoa attorney John A. Dickerson Sr. on his passing at the age of 79.

A Georgia Bar member since 1971, Mr. Dickerson began his legal career with the law firm of McClure, Ramsay & McClure in Toccoa and practiced law for more than half a century with the same firm, which is now known as McClure, Ramsay & Dickerson. He served his community as city attorney for the City of Toccoa for more than 40 years. He served several other Northeast Georgia cities in the same capacity and was a past president of the Georgia Municipal Association’s City Attorneys Section. He was also a past president of the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Dickerson also served his profession as president of the Stephens County Bar Association and the Mountain Judicial Circuit Bar Association and was a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was honored by the State Bar with the Chief Justice Thomas O. Marshall Professionalism Award in 2013 and the Tradition of Excellence Award in 2016 and was the inaugural recipient of the Judge Robert B. Struble Professionalism Award for the Mountain Circuit in 2014.

John Dickerson will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made through his service to the public and the justice system.

Sincerely,

Christopher P. Twyman
President, State Bar of Georgia
