To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to offer congratulations to longtime Atlanta attorney Richard H. Deane Jr., of counsel with Jones Day, on his installation as the 75th president of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL).
The ACTL is an organization of exceptional trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds of the United States and Canada. Members are selected by invitation only and have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy, integrity, professionalism and collegiality.
A fellow of the ACTL since 2008, Mr. Deane is the first African-American to serve as its president. Before joining Jones Day, he served as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. He is a former partner-in-charge of Jones Day’s Atlanta office and former co-chair of the firm’s Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice. He is a past president of the National Association of Former United States Attorneys and a recipient of the Chief Justice Thomas O. Marshall Professionalism Award, presented by the Bench & Bar Committee of the State Bar of Georgia.
Mr. Deane’s installation as ACTL president is a source of pride for all of his fellow members of the Georgia Bar. We wish him a successful tenure in this new capacity of professional leadership.
Sincerely,
Ivy N. Cadle
President, State Bar of Georgia
