To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Brunswick attorney and Glynn County Chief Magistrate Judge Wallace E. Harrell on his passing at the age of 91.
A Georgia Bar member since 1956, Judge Harrell practiced law with the firm of Gilbert Harrell Sumerford & Martin, P.C., for more than 60 years. After retiring from the firm, he was elected as chief judge of the Glynn County Magistrate Court. As a formidable trial attorney, he was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and recipient of the State Bar of Georgia’s Tradition of Excellence Award and the Georgia Legal History Foundation’s Nestor Award, which honors the state’s leading lawyers and judges.
Judge Harrell further served the profession and judiciary as chair of the Georgia Board of Bar Examiners and as a member of the Court Advisory Committee of the Southern District of Georgia. He also served his country as an Army first lieutenant.
Judge Wallace Harrell will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate his career-long dedication and the many contributions he made through his service to the public and the justice system.
Sincerely,
J. Antonio “Tony” DelCampo
President, State Bar of Georgia
