To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Gainesville attorney Weymon H. Forrester on his passing at the age of 84.
A Georgia Bar member since 1966, Mr. Forrester began his legal career as a clerk to then-U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Griffin Bell, who later served as attorney general of the United States. He then joined the Gainesville law firm of Whelchel, Dunlap & Gignilliat, where he practiced for 22 years before co-founding the firm of Forrester & Brim, which later merged with Huff Powell Bailey in Atlanta.
He was a respected litigator during his more than half a century in the practice of law. Among his honors were his induction as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1984 and as recipient of the Tradition of Excellence Award presented by the State Bar’s Trial & General Practice Section in 2019.
Mr. Forrester also served his profession as president of the Gainesville Northeastern Bar Association and vice president of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.
Weymon Forrester will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made through his service to the public and the justice system.
Sincerely,
Christopher P. Twyman
President, State Bar of Georgia
