Area Judge, Attorney Elected to Board of Governors of State Bar of Georgia

Atlanta – Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Ralph Lee Van Pelt Jr. of Ringgold was elected, and Archibald A. Farrar Jr. of Farrar & Corbin P.C. in Summerville was re-elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the 52,000-member State Bar of Georgia. Both were installed June 4.

Farrar will continue to serve in the Lookout Mountain Circuit, Post 1 seat on the board, representing Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties. He earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1974. His law practice is focused in the areas of real estate law, civil litigation, corporate and probate matters. He has served as city attorney for Menlo and as county attorney for Chattooga County.

Van Pelt will serve in the Post 3 seat from the Lookout Mountain Circuit. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law and joined the State Bar in 1980. He has served as a Superior Court judge since 1996 and previously served as district attorney in the Lookout Mountain Circuit.

The Board of Governors is the 160-member policymaking authority of the State Bar, with representation from each of Georgia’s judicial circuits. The board holds regular meetings at least four times per year.
