To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Atlanta attorney Miles J. Alexander on his passing at the age of 93.
A Georgia Bar member since 1955, Mr. Alexander graduated from Emory University and Harvard Law School. After two years in the military and one year teaching at Harvard, he returned to Atlanta and joined the firm of Kilpatrick Townsend. He later chaired the firm and built its now world-recognized intellectual property practice. He represented numerous high-profile trademark law clients, ranging from Rolls Royce to Disney to the Estate of Martin Luther King Jr.
Mr. Alexander provided pro bono legal services throughout his career and served his faith community as the top lay leader of both the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League, remaining active in both for decades. He was honored with the Emory Medal, the university’s highest honor and became one of only two white attorneys inducted into the historic Gate City Bar Association.
Miles Alexander will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made through his service to the public and the justice system.
Sincerely,
Christopher P. Twyman
President, State Bar of Georgia
