William C. “Bill” Gentry was installed as the 64th president of the State Bar of Georgia on June 13, 2026. This follows Gentry’s service as the State Bar’s president-elect, treasurer and secretary.

Bill owns Gentry Law Firm LLC, which concentrates on high-asset divorce and family law cases and injury law cases. He has also written the Amazon bestselling book “I Want Out,” which shares anonymous stories of divorce and child custody from his nearly 40-year legal career.

An Atlanta native, Gentry has been practicing law in the state of Georgia since 1986. He has handled hundreds of cases in both state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout Georgia. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Virginia’s Economic Honors Program, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Immediately after college, he worked for two years as a congressional aide to then-Congressman Wyche Fowler in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., before going on to earn his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law where he was also president of the Student Bar Association.

Gentry has served on the State Bar’s Executive Committee since 2021 and the Board of Governors since 2012. He also served as president of the 1,000+ member Cobb County Bar Association from 2001-02. He has handled dozens of appeals in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals of Georgia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. Gentry is also a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar.

A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Gentry has long been active in his church community and currently serves on the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church Committee on Investigations. He and his wife are members of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church. He is also a trustee of the Cobb County Law Library Board.

Gentry has been married to his wife, Sherry, since 1987, and they have two adult children, Will and Elizabeth.
