Child Protection & Advocacy Section | Bylaws Update & Section Meeting

Date: May 28, 2026, 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM

Location: Virtual via Zoom

As a reminder, the State Bar of Georgia Annual Meeting will be held June 11-14 at the Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The event will feature continuing legal education (CLE) sessions, the annual members' meeting, board meetings and awards presentations, including the 9th Annual Presentation of the Judge Willie Lovett Award for Advancing the Field of Juvenile Law, sponsored by the Child Protection & Advocacy Section of the State Bar of Georgia and presented by Georgia Supreme Court Justice Charles Bethel, Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Georgia's Committee on Justice for Children.

The CPAS Bylaws Committee has recently completed drafting and approving amendments to the CPAS Bylaws to align them with the State Bar model bylaws and fiscal year. Linked here are the Current Bylaws, linked here are the CPAS Model Bylaws, and linked here are the 2026 CPAS Bylaws-Updated. The most significant changes involve the timing and procedures governing CPAS officer elections. Other changes update meeting and other time-bound requirements to align with the State Bar fiscal year. Please review and submit any proposed changes to the bylaws to Jill Roth no later than the close of business on May 8, 2026. No comments or proposed changes will be considered after that time.

Below, please find a link to register for the CPAS Section meeting to be held virtually on May 28, 2026, from 12 to 12:30 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting will be to:

  • Hold a vote to approve the updated bylaws so that they can be submitted for BOG approval prior to the State Bar Annual Meeting; and
  • Hold a vote to approve the annual meeting minutes from January 2026 and January 2025 and to ratify past actions of the section so as to cure any prior errors related to voting on the annual meeting minutes.

The bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of the members of the Section present at any properly called meeting at which a quorum is present and subsequent approval by the Board of Governors of the State Bar.

Please select the applicable year to view the annual meeting minutes from the 2025 and 2026 meetings. Please review and submit any proposed changes to Jill Roth no later than the close of business on May 8, 2026.

All Section members are encouraged to attend and participate in the May 28th CPAS meeting.
