Lawyer on Call Pilot Program

Lawyer on Call Pilot Program Overview

The State Bar of Georgia's Lawyer on Call Pilot Program (LOCPP) connects members of the Georgia General Assembly with volunteer attorneys who can provide practical, nonpartisan information about Georgia law, legal procedures, and the potential implications of proposed legislation. Through this program, State Bar members can use their professional knowledge and experience to help legislators better understand how the law works in practice, supporting informed decision-making and the administration of justice.

The program is voluntary, nonpartisan, and educational in nature. It is administered by the State Bar's Governmental Affairs Department and operates in accordance with the Bar's mission and applicable constitutional requirements.

Our goal is simple: Provide expertise, not advocacy.

How the Program Works

When a legislator or legislative staff member has a question about a specific area of Georgia law, the State Bar's Governmental Affairs Department may connect them with a participating attorney with relevant experience.

Volunteer attorneys may be asked to:

  • Explain existing Georgia laws or legal procedures.
  • Share practical insights from their areas of practice.
  • Identify potential implementation considerations associated with proposed legislation.
  • Participate in brief conversations, meetings or legislative committee presentations, as requested.

Most requests are expected to involve brief telephone conversations or email exchanges. Participation is based on each volunteer's availability and professional experience, and all requests are coordinated through the Governmental Affairs Department.
