DeKalb Attorneys, Judges Re-Elected to State Bar of Georgia Leadership Posts

Orlando, Florida – Five DeKalb County attorneys and judges were re-elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the 50,000-member State Bar of Georgia. They were installed June 8 during the organization’s Annual Meeting.

Additionally, DeKalb County Clerk of State and Magistrate Courts R. Javoyne Hicks of Stone Mountain was elected to serve on the State Bar’s Executive Committee. The Board of Governors elects six of its members to serve on the Executive Committee with the organization’s officers. The Executive Committee meets monthly and exercises the power of the Board of Governors when the board is not in session.

W. Dixon James of Wm. Dixon James P.C. in Decatur will continue to serve in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit, Post 2 seat on the Board of Governors, representing DeKalb County. He earned his law degree from the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1999. His law practice is focused on civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury and wrongful death, business litigation and real estate-related litigation.

DeKalb County Solicitor-General Donna Coleman-Stribling will continue to serve in the Post 4 seat from the Stone Mountain Circuit. She earned her law degree from the Emory University School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar in 1999. Prior to becoming solicitor-general, she served as DeKalb County’s deputy chief assistant district attorney over the Crimes Against Children Unit and also has experience in private law practice.

DeKalb County Public Defender Claudia S. Saari of Decatur will continue to serve in the Post 6 seat from the Stone Mountain Circuit. She earned her law degree from Emory University Law School and was admitted to the State Bar in 1987.

Hicks will continue to serve in the Post 8 seat from the Stone Mountain Circuit. She earned her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar in 1990. She is a past president of the DeKalb Bar Association.

DeKalb County State Court Judge Dax E. Lopez of Decatur will continue to serve in the Post 10 seat from the Stone Mountain Circuit. He earned his law degree from the Vanderbilt University Law School and was admitted to the State Bar in 2002.

The Board of Governors is the 160-member policymaking authority of the State Bar, with representation from each of Georgia’s judicial circuits. The board holds regular meetings at least four times per year.
