To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to express condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Lawrenceville attorney John W. Stokes Jr. on his recent passing.

Mr. Stokes’ exemplary career in the legal profession spanned more than 60 years, during which time he served the public as a U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Georgia and Assistant District Attorney and Assistant Solicitor for Fulton County. He also served his country as a Navy pilot during World War II and retired as a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserves.

All Georgia lawyers can be inspired by John Stokes’ lifelong commitment to service, through which he worked to promote the cause of justice, uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens. He will be missed by all who knew him.
