To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to congratulate the four outstanding alumni who were recently honored for their accomplishments by the University of Georgia School of Law.
Chief Justice Harold D. Melton of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Aflac Foundation President Kathelen Van Blarcum Amos and William P. “Billy” Payne of Centennial Holding Company, who brought the 1996 Olympic Games to Atlanta and more recently served as chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, were all presented with the Distinguished Service Scroll, the UGA law school’s highest honor. State Bar of Georgia Consumer Assistance Program Assistant Director Mercedes G. Ball was honored with the Young Alumnae of Excellence Award.
Each award is well deserved by these four recipients for their exemplary leadership and service to the public, the legal profession and the justice system of our state. We further salute Dean Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge and the UGA Law faculty and staff for recognizing the contributions of these most accomplished alumni.
