To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations to retired Chief Deputy Bobby G. Sapp of the Worth County Sheriff's Office on receiving the 2017 Liberty Bell Award, presented by the Tifton Judicial Circuit Bar Association during its recent Law Day observance. The award recognizes a citizen who serves others and encourages greater respect for the law and the courts.
I was honored to serve as keynote speaker for the event and would like to also salute and thank Judge Chad C. VanOrman, president of the Tifton Circuit Bar; Tift County State Court Judge Herbert W. Benson, who presented Tift Area Academy student Jia Josy with the First Impression Award for her winning entry in the Law Day essay competition; and other local Bar members for their leadership and participation.
The national theme for this year's celebration of Law Day is "The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy," which commemorates the amendment's citizenship, due process and equal protection clauses in our Constitution, thus advancing the rights of all Americans.
Our colleagues in the Tifton Circuit Bar Association are to be commended for a most successful observance of Law Day, which helps raise public awareness of the importance and value of our justice system.
