To the Editor:
The State Bar of Georgia extends condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Atlanta attorney Bernard R. Thomas Sr., whose passing March 21 has left us all saddened.
A member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1975, Mr. Thomas devoted much of his career to public service, first as a trial lawyer with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and later as a senior assistant city attorney for the City of Atlanta, during which time he was the principal legal adviser to the city’s finance department. Along with a number of years in private practice, including a stint as managing partner of Arrington, Patterson & Thomas P.C., Mr. Thomas also served as a research and policy analyst for the City of Atlanta until his retirement in 2014.
Bernard Thomas will be missed and fondly remembered by Georgia’s legal community, and lawyers across the state would do well to emulate his commitment to public service. We appreciate that exemplary service and the many contributions he made to the public and justice system during his admirable career.
President, State Bar of Georgia
