To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of Philip R. “Phil” Taylor, senior partner of Taylor Odachowski Schmidt Crossland LLC in St. Simons Island, after his passing on Aug. 16.

Admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1956, Mr. Taylor practiced law in Macon for 23 years as a partner with Harris Watkins Taylor & Chambless before moving to St. Simons Island in 1980. A leader among his peers, Mr. Taylor was a past president of the Macon Bar Association, past chair of the Board of Visitors at Mercer University Law School and a fellow in both the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia and the American College of Trial Attorneys. He served the public as chair of the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections, and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and the Glynn County Board of Education. And he served his country in the Naval Reserve and Judge Advocate General Corps of the Georgia National Guard.

Phil Taylor will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of the legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made during his career through his exemplary service to the public and justice system.

Sincerely,

Dawn M. Jones
President, State Bar of Georgia
