To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations to Edward Gresham, partner with Savannah PR and executive board member of the Savannah Branch of the NAACP, on receiving the 2017 Liberty Bell Award, presented by the Savannah Bar Association during its recent Law Day observance. The award recognizes a citizen who serves others and encourages greater respect for the law and the courts.
We also salute Sandra Kent, administrative assistant to Chatham County State Court Judge Gregory V. Sapp, on receiving the Judge Edward Hester Award, presented to an outstanding local courthouse employee; William S. Lewis of the Chatham County Public Defender’s Office, who received the Robbie Robinson Award for service to individuals and advancing legal, political and civil rights; and Catherine Bowman of the Bowman Law Office LLC, who received the John B. Miller Award for volunteer community service.
The national theme for this year’s celebration of Law Day is “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy,” which commemorates the amendment’s citizenship, due process and equal protection clauses in our Constitution, thus advancing the rights of all Americans.
The members of the Savannah Bar Association are to be commended for their leadership and participation in this successful observance of Law Day, which helps raise public awareness of the importance and value of our justice system.
