To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to offer condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Cherokee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge G. Carey Nelson of Cartersville on his recent, untimely passing.

During his distinguished career of more than four decades in the legal profession and justice system, Judge Nelson practiced law in Cartersville, as a founding partner in the firm of Nelson & Bradley, and served as attorney for Bartow County and as a Juvenile Court judge pro tem before his appointment as a Superior Court judge in 2001. He also served his country as an officer in the Navy before entering law school.

Judge Carey Nelson will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of the legal community. We appreciate the many contributions he made during his admirable career as a lawyer and a judge through his exemplary service to the public and the justice system.
