To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to salute Dean Cathy Cox and the Mercer University School of Law alumni on the establishment of the Griffin B. Bell and Frank C. Jones Fund for the Enhancement of Advocacy Education and Programs, as well as the naming of the school’s first-floor courtroom in honor of the two distinguished Mercer Law graduates.
Judge Bell, who served as attorney general of the United States under President Jimmy Carter, and Mr. Jones, a giant of Georgia’s legal community who served as president of the State Bar of Georgia in 1968-1969 and as president of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1993-1994, are well deserving of the honor. We further salute Mercer Law alumni Dwight Davis, Paul Quiros and Doc Schneider for their leadership in creating the endowment to benefit future Mercer law students.
We join Mercer Law in celebrating the careers of the late Griffin Bell and Frank Jones and their many contributions to the legal profession and justice system, and we add our applause to these most appropriate honors.
