The State Bar of Georgia congratulates Eastern Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant Public Defender William S. “Bill” Lewis on the occasion of his recent retirement and thanks him for his distinguished service to the people of Chatham County.
Mr. Lewis has devoted the entirety of his 39-year career in the legal profession to criminal defense law, including the past 14 years fulfilling the constitutional mandate of indigent defense, representing those accused of crimes who are unable to afford representation. Respected by his fellow Bar members, in 2017 Mr. Lewis received both the Robbie Robinson Award from the Savannah Bar Association and the St. Thomas More Award from the Catholic Lawyers Guild.
Bill Lewis’ colleagues in the Georgia legal community appreciate his many contributions during his exemplary service to the public and the justice system. We wish him well in his years of retirement ahead.
