To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend congratulations to Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shawn Ellen LaGrua on her appointment by Gov. Brian Kemp to serve as a justice on the Supreme Court of Georgia.
As a justice, Judge LaGrua will be well served on the state’s highest court by her 33 years of experience in the legal profession and justice system. Prior to her 10 years on the Superior Court bench in Fulton County, she served as a prosecutor in the Atlanta, Stone Mountain and Tallapoosa judicial circuits, as solicitor general for DeKalb County and as an inspector general in the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.
Judge LaGrua will be making a bit of history as well. As a fellow graduate of Georgia State University College of Law, I am proud to note she will be the first graduate of that law school to become a justice on our state’s highest court.
By accepting this appointment, Judge LaGrua demonstrates her continued commitment to serving the public and the justice system. We wish her well in this new capacity of statewide judicial leadership.

President, State Bar of Georgia
