To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend congratulations to Margaret E. “Meg” Heap of Savannah, former district attorney for the Eastern Judicial Circuit, on her appointment by Gov. Brian Kemp to serve on the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
All Georgia residents will benefit from Ms. Heap’s service on the board, which is authorized to grant paroles, pardons, commutations and reprieves in the criminal justice system and is the only entity in the state with the constitutional authority to commute a death sentence.
By accepting this position, Ms. Heap demonstrates her continued commitment to serving the public and the justice system. We wish her well in this new capacity of statewide leadership.

President, State Bar of Georgia
