On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express congratulations to Judge Verda M. Colvin of the Court of Appeals of Georgia on her appointment by Gov. Brian Kemp to serve as the newest justice on the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Justice Colvin will be well served in her new position by her 28 years of experience in the legal profession and justice system, including the past 15 months on the Court of Appeals and the previous six years as the first African-American to serve as a Superior Court judge in the Macon Judicial Circuit. Before becoming a judge, she was assistant general counsel of Clark Atlanta University, assistant district attorney in the Clayton Judicial Circuit and assistant U.S. attorney in the Middle District of Georgia.
Justice Colvin has also served on Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Commission and was recently honored by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia with its Distinguished Judicial Service Award from, among many other avenues of service and recognition.
By accepting this appointment to our state’s highest court, Justice Colvin demonstrates her continued commitment to serving the public and the justice system. We wish her well in this new capacity of judicial leadership.
