To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of George L. Cohen, retired senior partner with Eversheds Sutherland in Atlanta after his passing on Feb. 9 at the age of 90.
A member of the Georgia Bar since 1957, Mr. Cohen began his law practice as an associate of the firm then known as Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, where he remained until his retirement in 2017. A leader among his peers, he chaired the State Bar’s Corporation and Banking Law Section and was instrumental in drafting the Georgia Business Corporation Code adopted in 1969. Two decades later, he chaired the committee responsible for a comprehensive revision of the code. He also served on the American Bar Association’s Corporate Laws Committee that drafted the Revised Model Business Corporation Act in the 1980s.
George Cohen will be missed and fondly remembered by his fellow members of the legal community. We appreciate his dedication and the many contributions he made during his career through his exemplary service to the public and justice system.
