To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to extend congratulations to Sonja Natasha Brown and Michael E. McLaughlin on their appointments by Cobb County Chief Magistrate Judge Brendan F. Murphy to serve as full-time Magistrate judges.

Judge Brown will be well served in her new position by her 16 years of experience in the legal profession, including private law practice and public service, most recently as deputy chief assistant district attorney and director of community affairs for the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office and previously as deputy chief assistant solicitor-general for DeKalb County and as chief senior assistant district attorney for the Atlanta Judicial Circuit.

Judge McLaughlin brings 40 years of legal experience to his full-time position on the Magistrate Court bench. A member of the State Bar of Georgia’s Family Law Section, he focused his law practice in the metro Atlanta area in child custody, corporate law and criminal law matters.

By accepting these appointments, Judge Brown and Judge McLaughlin demonstrate their continued commitment to serving the public and the justice system. We wish them well in this new capacity of judicial leadership.
