To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations and thanks to the judges and lawyers of the Clayton Judicial Circuit Superior Court and Clayton County State Court on their recent observance of Law Day 2017.
On May 1, Clayton County attorneys were invited to the courthouse, where they offered free legal consultations to members of the public in the areas of family law, criminal law, immigration, wills, real estate law and bankruptcy. State Court Judge Tammi Hayward, Superior Court Judge Geronda Carter, Court Administrator Phyllis Douglas are to be commended for their leadership and participation in organizing this effort.
Additionally, the Clayton County Bar Association held a special Law Day observance on May 5, featuring a keynote address by Presiding Justice Harold Melton of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
The national theme for this year’s celebration of Law Day is “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy,” which commemorates the amendment’s citizenship, due process and equal protection clauses in our Constitution, thus advancing the rights of all Americans.
We salute our Clayton County colleagues for coordinating these special observances of Law Day, which helps raise public awareness of the importance and value of our justice system.
