To the Editor:

The State Bar of Georgia extends condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of retired Atlanta Municipal Court Judge Elaine L. Carlisle, whose tragic passing Feb. 21 has left us all saddened.

During a distinguished legal career that began in 1983, Judge Carlisle served the Atlanta Municipal Court for 27 years following seven years as an attorney in the city solicitor’s office. While on the bench, she took a leading role in the training of Atlanta Police officers for appearances in Municipal Court and as an advocate for criminal justice reform.

Judge Carlisle will be missed and fondly remembered by Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate the many contributions she made during her admirable career and her exemplary service to the public and the justice system.
