To the Editor:

The State Bar of Georgia congratulates Augusta Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Carl C. Brown on receiving the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Mercer University School of Law at its sixth annual Alumni Dinner.

Judge Brown is well deserving of the award in light of his distinguished service as chief judge of the Augusta Circuit, covering Burke, Columbia and Richmond counties, and as administrative judge for the 10th Judicial District. An Army veteran and advocate for justice in his community, his judicial career started in 1982, when he was appointed as chief judge of the Municipal Court to become Augusta’s first African-American judge.

By earning this prestigious honor from his law school alma mater, Judge Brown demonstrates his ongoing commitment to service. His fellow State Bar of Georgia members add our appreciation and applause, and we would all do well to follow his example.
