To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to offer congratulations and thanks to the leaders of the Blue Ridge Bar Association who spearheaded the recent observance of Law Day 2019.

Congratulations also go to retired Air Force Lt. Col. Dick Hall, “super volunteer” with the accountability courts of Cherokee County, who received the Liberty Bell Award; and to longtime Cherokee County resident Vernon Keenan, recently retired director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who received the Robert S. “Bob” Stubbs Distinguished Service Award.

The national theme for this year’s celebration of Law Day, “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society,” focuses on these cornerstones of representative government and calls on us to understand and protect these rights to ensure, as the U.S. Constitution proposes, “the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity,” was the subject of keynote remarks delivered by Chief Justice Harold D. Melton of the Supreme Court of Georgia.

We commend all members of the Blue Ridge Bar Association for a most successful observance of Law Day, which helps make the public aware of the importance and value of our justice system.

President, State Bar of Georgia
