To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations and thanks to the Blue Ridge Bar Association on its recent observance of Law Day 2017, featuring Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr as keynote speaker for a joint luncheon with the Rotary Club of Canton.
We also congratulate Canton City Council member JoEllen Wilson, who received the 2017 Liberty Bell Award, which recognizes an individual who encourages greater respect for the law and the courts, and Robby Westbrook, retired director of the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, who received the Robert S. “Bob” Stubbs Distinguished Service Award. The Blue Ridge Bar Association presented both awards during the Law Day luncheon.
The national theme for this year’s celebration of Law Day is “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy,” which commemorates the amendment’s citizenship, due process and equal protection clauses in our Constitution, thus advancing the rights of all Americans.
We salute our colleagues in the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit for coordinating this successful observance of Law Day, which helps raise public awareness of the importance and value of our justice system.

President, State Bar of Georgia
