To the Editor:

The State Bar of Georgia extends condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of Fred D. Bentley Sr. of Kennesaw, founder of the Bentley, Bentley and Bentley Law Firm in Marietta, upon his passing Oct. 3, at the age of 92.

Mr. Bentley had been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1948, and was the last surviving original member of the Cobb County Bar Association. He also served the public as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and the State Senate during the 1950s, and was a past president of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and past state chair of the Georgia Mental Health Association. A major contributor toward higher education, he was instrumental in the establishment of Kennesaw State University and donated rare book libraries to both Kennesaw State and Brenau University in Gainesville.

Fred Bentley Sr. will be missed and fondly remembered by Georgia’s legal community. We appreciate the many contributions he made during his admirable career and his exemplary service to the public and the justice system of our state.
