To the Editor:

The State Bar of Georgia congratulates Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Lovett Bennett Jr. on receiving the prestigious Golden Eagle Award from the Coastal Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

For the past 11 years, Judge Bennett has served on the council’s executive board and was scoutmaster of Troop 342 from 2004 through 2017 and assistant scoutmaster from 1999 through 2004. He is a previous recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Lifetime Achievement Award, the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest honor a Boy Scout Council can bestow on an adult volunteer.

The Golden Eagle Award recognizes those in and out of scouting who are champions of community service and who embody the Boy Scout law, which defines scouts as trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.

We salute the Coastal Georgia Council for recognizing Judge Bennett’s exemplary leadership and service to the Boy Scouts, which are in addition to his many other contributions to the community, as well as the legal profession and our justice system.
