To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to express congratulations and thanks to members of the Cobb Bar Association who spearheaded the recent observance of Law Day 2018.
Congratulations also go to Chief Justice Harris Hines of the Supreme Court of Georgia, who received the prestigious Bobby Cleveland Award; Thomas J. Charron, who received the Public Service Award; Smyrna Police Detective Jeremy Lanzing and Cobb County Police Detective Richard McElwain, who received the Public Safety Officer of the Year Awards; Leigh Colburn, who received the Liberty Bell Award; Cobb Bar staff members Carol Kinstle, Tricia Traeger and Ivone Hughes, who received the Babe Atkins-Byrne Excellence in Legal Administration Award; James Hogan, who received the Richard L. Moore Volunteer Award; John Hildebrand, who received the Jimmy Berry Champion of Justice Award; Judge Eric Brewton, who received the Judge A. Harris Adams Justice Award; and Carlos Rodriguez, who received the Ross Adams Younger Lawyer Award.
The national theme for this year’s celebration of Law Day, “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom,” acknowledges the system of checks and balances among the three branches of U.S. government – legislative, executive and judicial.
We commend President Maddox Kilgore and all members of the Cobb Bar Association for a most successful observance of Law Day, which helps make the public aware of the importance and value of our justice system.
