I am a candidate for the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors, Atlanta Circuit Post 13. I am an Assistant Attorney General with the Georgia Department of Law. Prior to that, I was an associate with a civil litigation firm in Dublin, Georgia.
I have been active in various capacities at both the State Bar and local Bar levels for a number of years. I served as the Board of Governors Representative for the Dublin Circuit from 2013 to 2014, before having to step down from the seat when I moved to Atlanta. I served as a representative on the Executive Council of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) from 2009 to 2011. I served as co-chair of the YLD’s Disaster Legal Services Committee in 2010 and 2011, in which capacity I helped coordinate the provision of legal assistance to victims of the tornadoes that struck Georgia in April 2011. I am a 2010 graduate of the YLD’s Leadership Academy. At the local Bar level, I served as vice president of the Dublin Bar Association in 2011.
I believe that we have a very strong State Bar and I hope to use my position on the Board of Governors to advance the best interests of the Bar and to ensure that the Georgia legal community is giving back to the community at large.
I am very eager to represent the Atlanta Circuit on the Board of Governors and would greatly appreciate your support and vote in this election.

Main issues facing the State Bar/position:
I feel that the biggest issue facing the State Bar right now is ensuring access to legal services for all Georgians. It has been well documented recently that rural areas in Georgia are in dire need of more lawyers to provide essential legal services. Bar President Patrise Perkins-Hooker brought this important issue before the Board at the recent Midyear Meeting, and the Board and the Bar need to do whatever can be done to try to attract lawyers to these rural areas where the greatest gaps exist.
I also feel that the Bar needs to do anything it can to help ensure that judges in Georgia are adequately compensated. The high volume of cases judges are asked to handle demands adequate compensation so that we can ensure that judgeships will continue to attract qualified candidates when there are openings.
