To the Editor:
The State Bar of Georgia congratulates Justice Michael P. Boggs on his recent installation as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Chief Justice Boggs will be well served in his new position by his 32 years of experience in the legal profession and justice system, including the past six years as a justice on the Supreme Court and his previous service as a judge of the Court of Appeals of Georgia and, before that, the Waycross Judicial Circuit Superior Court. A dedicated public servant, Chief Justice Boggs also served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, as a county attorney and special assistant attorney general.
As a leader among his peers in the judiciary, Chief Justice Boggs chairs the national steering committee of Justice Counts, which works to improve the availability and utility of criminal justice data in policy-making decisions, and is also chair of the Judicial Council of Georgia.
Our appreciation also goes to retiring Chief Justice David E. Nahmias for his outstanding leadership in that position and throughout his 13 years on the court. The State Bar of Georgia enjoys a strong working relationship with the Supreme Court of Georgia in our joint mission of serving the public and the justice system, which we look forward to continuing under the leadership of Chief Justice Boggs.
Sincerely,
Sarah B. “Sally” Akins
President, State Bar of Georgia
