Georgia legal community mourns loss of Tax Commissioner Tiffany Porter

Gwinnett Daily Post, Lawrenceville

To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Tiffany P. Porter on her very untimely passing at the age of 43.

Ms. Porter was my classmate at the Emory University School of Law. She was the first African-American judge to serve the Duluth Municipal Court. She had also founded two private-practice law firms and for four years was a regular guest legal analyst on Court TV. In 2020, she was elected as Gwinnett County’s first African-American tax commissioner.

Tiffany Porter’s exemplary career of service and zest for life in the midst of multiple battles against breast cancer is an inspiration to all Georgia lawyers. We are appreciative of her many generous contributions to the legal system in our state. She will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth L. Fite
President, State Bar of Georgia
