Permanent CLE Regulation Changes Approved by CCLC – No Limit on Distance Learning CLE

At its meeting on Oct. 22, 2021, the Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency (CCLC) permanently changed the regulation related to distance learning. Going forward lawyers can complete all or any portion of their CLE requirement through approved distance learning CLE programs. Attorneys can, of course, attend in-person CLE courses but are no longer required to attend an in-person CLE course to complete their CLE requirement. The CCLC made this change to allow lawyers more flexibility, to lower costs for lawyers by reducing travel-related expenses for attorneys who live in remote locations or far from learning centers, and to allow lawyers more opportunity to participate in courses that directly interest them.

Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE)

The Institute of Continuing Legal Education of the State Bar of Georgia continues livestream programming. In addition to livestream programming, ICLE maintains a library of webcasts with new content uploaded periodically for members to fulfill CLE requirements virtually through on-demand webcasts. Please find a list of available webcasts here.

We will continue to reevaluate and reassess the health situation as it evolves and provide future updates regarding new programming. The State Bar appreciates the volunteer efforts of all chairs and speakers, and asks for your continued patience and understanding as we work through our current reality. Protecting the health and safety of our speakers, staff and members continues to be our paramount concern.

If you have any questions, please contact ICLE at icle@gabar.org or 678-529-6688.
