Mark your calendars for April 17, when the Family Law Section will be hosting a fundraising reception for Atlanta Legal Aid.
After 35 years in its present location, 151 Spring Street, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society desperately needs to relocate its aging and dilapidated headquarters, and has instituted its first ever Capital Campaign to finance the purchase and renovation of its new headquarters in a historic building just blocks away at 54 Ellis Street. Its new home will provide adequate space to grow and to meet the ever expanding needs of its low income clients.
As we all know, Atlanta Legal Aid is an invaluable resource for family law litigants throughout the state. Providing legal services to poor people in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society has evolved into one of the best legal aid programs in the country. This Capital Campaign provides a tremendous opportunity for us as a section and individuals to give back. Toward that end, the section has committed to match up to $15,000 of individual contributions to the Capital Campaign, and has set a total fundraising goal of $50,000.
Needing to raise 5.35 million dollars, the Capital Campaign is off to a great start with its initial focus on the legal community. It has pledges and gifts of more than $2.1 Million, including major gifts from King & Spalding, the Barnes Law Group, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, Alston& Bird, Smith Gambrell & Russell and Arnall Golden Gregory as well as 11 gifts from individuals and families of more than $25,000 each, including a $100,000 gift from the Randolph Thrower Family.
Please plan to attend the reception on April 17, and to make your contribution to the Capital Campaign. The reception will be held downtown at Atlanta Legal Aid’s present location, 151 Spring Street, from 5-7 p.m.
Cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
