Young Lawyers Division
The Young Lawyers Division has been strengthened over the years through guidance by the State Bar of Georgia, its Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Supreme Court, and through dedicated service rendered by its members. In keeping with its motto of "working for the profession and the public," the YLD has 25 hard-working committees that provide service to the public, the profession, and the Bar through an array of projects and programs. Through the years, the YLD has also gained national recognition by winning several American Bar Association awards for its projects and publications.
From the YLD President
Dear Colleague:
This is your opportunity to become involved with the Young Lawyers Division (YLD). The YLD offers you the chance to stand out as a leader in the profession while building networks that will last throughout your career. Whether you join one of our 26 committees, become a member of our Executive Council or attend one of our upcoming meetings, I encourage you to get involved.
This brochure will provide you with an overview of the YLD, its purpose, history and various committees. The committees are the foundation of the YLD. As the "service arm" of the State Bar, the YLD committees offer a wide range of opportunities for members to work within the community and for the profession. The innovative programs, hard work and excellent service of these committees has garnered the YLD national recognition. The success of these committees is built upon the leadership and participation of young lawyers around the state. This is why I urge you to join one or more of the committees and participate. Even if you have signed up for a committee in the past, we need you to sign up again this year.
The committees are just one of many ways to get involved in the YLD. I also encourage you to attend one or more YLD meetings or events this year. The meeting dates and locations are included in this brochure. Each meeting provides an opportunity to earn CLE hours, to participate in a service project, receive information about YLD and Bar activities, all while enjoying fellowship with other young lawyers.
If you have any questions about the committees, YLD membership or have any new ideas for YLD projects, do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I look forward to working with all of you!
Sincerely,
Amy Howell
2009-10 YLD President
