Candidate's Campaign Message

I am pleased and honored to again announce my candidacy for the Board of Governors for the Macon Circuit, Post 1. I have been privileged to serve in this post for the past four years and would like to continue to serve. Our State Bar organization is important not only to and for Georgia lawyers, but also for the public that we serve.

Since being elected in 2009, I have attended all the Board of Governors’ meetings over the past four years. I have also had the privilege of being appointed by the past two Presidents of the State Bar of Georgia to serve as chair of a standing committee of the Bar. As chair of the Member Benefits Committee, I and our committee have worked to maintain, and expand, the benefits the Bar provides to its members. In the past year, we have expanded the benefits and products provided and explored the possibility of medical insurance coverage through the Bar that could be beneficial to our members.

I have also experienced working for our local lawyers in the Macon Judicial Circuit, having served as Treasurer, Secretary, President-Elect, and President of the Macon Bar Association and serving on the Executive Council of the YLD and on the YLD Executive Board. We are very fortunate to have a strong local Bar in our Circuit with good lawyers and excellent judges. I would like to continue the worthy traditions of our local Bar in my service on the Board of Governors. I would greatly appreciate and be honored to have the continued opportunity to represent the Macon Circuit in the work of the Georgia Bar.

Main issues facing the State Bar/position:

  • The independence of the Judicial branch of our state government must be maintained. Encroachment by the Executive and/or Legislative branch of our government over the orderly operations of the Judicial branch cannot be allowed and action that impacts the independence of the Judiciary must be closely monitored.

  • We have been in very trying economic times that have affected all sectors of our economy. Many in our profession have been significantly impacted. Our State Bar should continue to provide assistance to our members and continue to look for ways to assist our members as the economy and the delivery of legal services change over time.

  • The public perception of lawyers is not as good as it should be and not enough seems to be known by the public of the civic/charitable work done by Georgia attorneys. We need to collectively work on our public image.
