Proposed Amendments to the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct
The Disciplinary Rules & Procedures Committee proposes that the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct be amended to reflect recent changes to the American Bar Association Model Rules. The Committee also recommends changes to eight procedural rules for disciplinary matters, and one Uniform Superior Court Rule.
At the 2010 Annual Meeting the Board of Governors approved a Special Procedure for consideration of the proposed amendments:
- Early suggested wording changes must be in writing and received by the State Bar on or before Tuesday, July 20, 2010, for inclusion in the Board's agenda book.
- During the Summer Meeting (Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010) the Board will briefly discuss the proposed amendments and any early suggested wording changes.
- Final suggested wording changes must be in writing and received by the State Bar on or before Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, for inclusion in the Board's agenda book. NO OTHER WORDING CHANGES WILL BE IN ORDER.
- The Board will vote on the proposed amendments at the Fall Meeting, Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010.
Comments should be directed to Paula Frederick, General Counsel, State Bar of Georgia, 104 Marietta St. NW, Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30303; by e-mail to paulaf@gabar.org; or by fax to Paula Frederick at (404)527-8744.
Staff from the Office of the General Counsel are available to speak to local bar groups about the proposed amendments. Please contact Paula Frederick if you would like to schedule a presentation; we are able to offer 1 hour of CLE credit to attendees.
