Transition Into Law Practice Program
Every attorney newly admitted to practice in the State of Georgia, unless exempted, must complete the Mandatory Transition Into Law Practice Program during the year of his or her admission, or during the next calendar year. (State Bar of Georgia Rule 8-104 (B)).
About TILPP: To assist beginning lawyers in their transition from student to professional, the Supreme Court of Georgia authorized the State Bar of Georgia to proceed with TILPP, which is essentially an educational program that combines a Mentoring component with a Continuing Legal Education component. TILPP was developed by, and is operated under the auspices of, the Standards of the Profession Committee of the Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency.
Purpose of TILPP: The core of TILPP is to match beginning lawyers, after admission to the Bar, with a mentor during their first year of practice. The purpose of TILPP is to afford every beginning lawyer newly admitted to the State Bar of Georgia with meaningful access to an experienced lawyer equipped to teach the practical skills, seasoned judgment, and sensitivity to ethical and professionalism values necessary to practice law in a highly competent manner.
COMPLIANCE WITH TILPP IS MANDATORY, UNLESS YOU ARE EXEMPTED PURSUANT TO YOUR WRITTEN EXEMPTION REQUEST. Your State Bar enrollment materials must include either the TILPP Enrollment Form or the TILPP Exemption Form.
To Enroll in TILPP: Submit the TILPP Enrollment form, along with your State Bar of Georgia enrollment materials. Further information will be furnished upon receipt of your TILPP Enrollment form.
