2011 Fellows Reception 2011 Fellows Reception January 15, 2011 from 5:30-7:30 PM Please join us at Opryland on January 15th for a reception to benefit the Challenge Grant Program. This annual reception, held during the Midyear Meeting of the State Bar of Georgia, helps fund the Challenge Grant Program, now in its eleventh year. The reception will start at 5:30 and end at 7:30, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy downtown Nashville or other entertainment afterwards. The completely restored Opryland Hotel is a sight to behold! It is spectacular—like no place you have ever seen. It’s a magical city under glass, with restaurants and waterfalls and walkways that will delight your senses. Early Bird tickets are $75, and are available until December 29th. B.A.S.I.C.S. B.A.S.I.C.S. In 1976, when Chief Justice Warren Burger, of the U. S. Supreme Court, challenged this nation’s lawyers to become more involved in making improvements in the criminal justice system, no one could have foreseen that the BASICS program, established by the State Bar of Georgia, would survive for 34 years. But, as it begins its 34th year, we can proudly report that BASICS has survived and has been successful in its mission to improve our communities by helping reduce recidivism in the criminal justice system. With a recidivism rate of around 16%, and a cost per inmate of considerably less than $1,000, this program is an outstanding example of what education and training can do for everyone. Memorial & Tribute Contributions Memorial & Tribute Contributions The Lawyers Foundation of Georgia’s Memorials and Tributes Program is offered as a unique way to honor and remember a Georgia lawyers, his or her spouse, child or friend who has died. It is also a wonderful way to honor an individual or firm for reaching a particular milestone, such as making partner, retiring, or a significant anniversary. Once a gift is received, a written acknowledgement is sent to the contributor as well as the surviving spouse or other family member, and the Georgia Bar Journal. Fellows Program Fellows Program The invitation to membership in the Fellows Program is a honor which recognizes lawyers whose public and private careers demonstrate outstanding legal abilities and a devotion to their communities. When new Fellows are nominated, we look for attorneys whose careers have demonstrated the highest standards and who appreciate the values supported by the Foundation. The Fellows Program was established in 1983, and became the membership body of the Lawyers Foundation in 1996. Fellows are nominated throughout the year and invitations go out in the fall and winter. Invitations are accepted with a pledge of $1250, which may be paid in one sum, or spread out over 5 years. The Fellow Nomination Form is available online at www.gabar.org.
