Schedule/Personalize Element

Use the Schedule/Personalize Item dialog to specify the criteria for rendering an Element contained within a Scheduled Element. To edit an existing scheduling entry, open the Schedule/Personalize Element dialog from the Define Elements to Schedule/Personalize dialog by clicking one of the edit icons and selecting Edit scheduling properties.

To create a new scheduling entry, open the Schedule/Personalize Item dialog from the Edit Rendering Criteria dialog by clicking the ghost text “Add Schedule Entry”, or by clicking one of the edit icons and selecting either “Insert new entry above…” or “Insert new entry below…”. The Element field will include a drop-down list from which you can select one of the contained Elements.

The available scheduling criteria include:

Element - If you are editing an existing entry, the Element name CommonSpot displays cannot be editable. For a new entry, select an Element form the drop-down list.
Date Range - When scheduling an Element to render based on date range, you are selecting a period of time in which you want the Element to display.

If the content is to be displayed everyday with no variations, check All Dates. If the content is to be displayed for a certain day or period of time, check Specific Date/Time. The option will expand to allow you to specify starting and ending dates and times. Click the calendar icons to open the date picker

Groups - An Element can be scheduled to render based on a user’s affiliation with a specific Audience or group.

If the Element will be viewed by all visitors, click All Groups. To specify a specific audience, click Specific Groups. The option will expand to include a selection list containing existing groups. To add a new group, select Manage/Create Groups to open the Manage/Create Groups dialog.

Page Categories - Elements can be scheduled to display based upon page categorization. CommonSpot categorizes pages when they are created in the Create Page dialog, or later if you use the Page Properties dialog.

The default setting is to display the Element for all categories. To schedule the Element to render for one or more page categories, click Selected Categories. The option will expand to include a list of existing categories. Select the desired category or categories from the list.

Subsites - CommonSpot allows for the creation of multiple subsites within a site. An Element can be scheduled to render based on which subsite the current page resides in. The default setting is to render the Element irrespective of the current page’s subsite.

To choose the sites for which the Element will render, click the subsite’s radio button. The drop down list displays a list of all the subsites. Choose the site(s) for which the Element will display.

To select subsites where the URL contains a specified string, select the SubSites where the URL contains radio button. This option allows flexibility in specifying directories that have the same or similar name, but are in different parts of a site’s hierarchy.

Subsite Levels - Elements can be scheduled to display based upon a selected subsite level (from 1 to 10) or by all subsite levels.

Weekdays - Elements can be scheduled to display every day or on selected weekdays (highlight the selected day(s) desired).

Specific times - Elements can be scheduled to display all day or for just a portion of the day. Enter the specific From and To times if the Element should not display all day.

Click the calendar icons to open the Date/Time Element.

Browsers and other targets - To schedule by browser type, select the browser type for which the Element is scheduled to appear. Using this feature, you can schedule certain Elements to appear when a user navigates to the page using an IE browser, while other Elements would appear for users navigating using a Netscape browser.

The Include in Verity Index and Include in printed output options are checked by default. Uncheck Include in Verity Index to exclude the content of the scheduled Element from the text sent to Verity for the page. Uncheck Include in printed output to exclude the content of the scheduled Element from the page when “RenderForPrint” is set to 1.

Variable Comparison - When you enter a variable name in the Variable field, CommonSpot will compare the variable value to the data specified in the Comparison data field using the selected operator. If the equation evaluates to “true”, the scheduled criteria is met. For example, to select a schedule that would only be visible to users with “paperthin.com” in their email address, you would enter the following data:
Variable: request.user.emailaddress
Operator: contains
Comparison data: paperthin.com

Click Save to keep your changes.
