Administrative Assistant | Transition Into Law Practice Program, State Bar of Georgia

The State Bar of Georgia is accepting applications for the position of administrative assistant of the Transition Into Law Practice Program. Qualifications include Bachelor's degree; three years or more of progressive office experience as an administrative assistant or its equivalent; paralegal training/prior experience as a paralegal (preferred); mediation training (preferred); and prior work experience in private law firms, government legal departments or bar associations. Director | Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC)

The JQC is accepting applications for the position of director effective in June/July 2015. The applicant must be a member of the State Bar of Georgia with a minimum of 10 years experience, preferably as an active trial lawyer in both civil and criminal matters, have strong administrative and interpersonal skills, and be capable of dealing professionally with the bench, bar, legislature, public and press. The primary duties of this position involve, but are not limited to:

  • Counseling judges on compliance with the Code of Judicial Conduct;
  • Receiving, reviewing and investigating complaints of judicial misconduct;
  • Coordinating with the JQC's independent investigator to investigate claims of judicial misconduct;
  • Preparing for, coordinating and attending monthly meetings of the JQC;
  • Coordinating with independent counsel regarding formal proceedings brought against judges by the JQC;
  • Carrying out and coordinating the imposition of discipline of judges found to have violated the Code of Judicial Conduct;
  • Drafting of various pleadings for transmission to the Supreme Court of Georgia relating to disciplinary actions;
  • Coordinating with other state entities including the governor's office, the State Bar of Georgia, the Judicial Nominating Commission and Institute for Continuing Judicial Education (ICJE);
  • Drafting of Advisory Opinions for consideration by the JQC;
  • Handling all forms of communication between the JQC and the public, the media, the courts, and other state and national judicial conduct organizations;
  • Preparing and monitoring the budget for the JQC;
  • Conferring with and assisting the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Judicial Council and the General Assembly, with its various committees, concerning budgetary and other administrative matters;
  • Presenting seminars on judicial ethics and the work of the JQC at ICJE seminars and other judicial functions;
  • Performing all election responsibilities required by Commission Rule 27;
  • Monitoring compliance by judges with CJE requirements;
  • Managing the JQC website; and
  • Managing the office, equipment, operations, accounts payable and personnel, etc., of the JQC.
